Sacred Stained Glass Talk & Tour with Dr David Caron

6th March 2023 @ 10:45 am - 4:30 pm

Treasure Ireland National Churches Trust in collaboration with Ulster Architectural Heritage invite you to a special event: Sacred Stained Glass: Talk and Tour with Dr David Caron, 6 March, 10:45-16:30.

Join us for a celebration of treasured stained glass. Our key speaker David was one of the three original compilers of the Gazetteer of Irish Stained Glass in 1988 and the revised edition, published in 2021. David’s PhD research at Trinity College Dublin focussed on the stained-glass artist Michael Healey and the artists of the An Túr Gloine studio.

We warmly welcome you in person to the fabulous Old Museum Building, Belfast home to Ulster Architectural Heritage. Here David will present an illustrated talk on the sacred stained glass of glass studios and artists based on the island of Ireland. This will be followed by a bus tour to four locations in Belfast that have been handpicked to showcase the work of remarkable artists and studios including:
– Fisherwick Presbyterian Church – artist George Stephen Walsh for Clokey of Belfast
– St John’s, Malone Road – artists Wilhelmina Geddes, Evie Hone, William MacBride and Catherine O’Brien
– Holy Family Church – the work of artist George W. Walsh
– Church House, Assembly Buildings – artists Wilhelmina Geddes and Neil Shawcross

Book early to avoid disappointment. Lunch will be provided on the day.

This FREE event has been made possible thanks to the support of our funders (The National Churches Trust, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Pilgrims Trust and Department for Communities: Historic Environment Division).
