Non-Member Architecture in Landscape
Non - Member Ticket - As much as our appreciation of buildings is inextricably bound up with their setting, so our understanding of landscapes can be shaped by the placement and form of monuments and architecture within them. This talk will consider the inter-relationship of architecture and landscape in the grand narrative of architecture in Britain and Ireland. It will also consider the ways in which the Picturesque and Romantic movements sought to shape landscape to aesthetic effect as a foil for architecture. John Goodall is the architectural editor of Country Life. His most recent books are The English Castle 1066-1650 (2011), Parish Church Treasures (2015), Interior House Style (2019) and The Castle: A History (2022). John sits on the fabric advisory committees of several English cathedrals and great churches as well as the Cathedrals Fabric Committee for England. The event takes place in the Assembly Rooms at the Irish Linen Centre Lisburn Museum.
