Architectural Heritage Training – Newry

30th June 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

Do you want to know more about the architectural heritage of Newry?

On Friday, 30th June, UAH will be delivering an event to highlight Newry’s architectural heritage. The event will consist of talks on the area’s architectural history, the architects most associated with the city (Thomas Duff, W.J. Barre and W.J. Watson), and common architectural details/styles that can be seen in the city. After this, we will showcase the walking tour and trail we have developed, focusing Duff, Barre, and Watson.

This event is aimed at students and tour guides from across Northern Ireland, but especially those local to the area. Our aim is to provide training on the architects, their buildings, and highlight styles and features that makes the city’s architecture so unique. This will hopefully inspire individuals to learn about the rich built heritage in the area and share this with others.

This event is generously funded by Newry, Mourne and Down Council.

Below is a rough itinerary for the day:

10.15 start: talk on three Newry architects and their contribution to the city

11.15am: Presentation on architectural features and styles

11.45am: Light refreshments
