Visit to Early 20th Century Irish Midland Churches

This event is an opportunty to visit three architecturally significant but under appreciated Roman Catholic churches in the Irish Midlands in the company of the incomparable Dr Edward McParland, Pro-Chancellor of Trinity College, Dublin, and Vice President of UAH.

It will begin on Friday 20 July at 6.30pm in Athlone at the Church of St Peter & St Paul at 6.30pm. After visiting this church we will have dinner in Prince of Wales hotel and stay the night there.
Saturday 21 July – We travel by bus to St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford, (miraculosly restored after the diastrous fire in 2009 and pictured above) and then to Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar, stopping for lunch on the way. We return to Athlone to end the day.
The cost which includes Dinner, bed & breakfast, light lunch, bus and UAH overheads is £180 for a single and £130 per person sharing. The numbers are limited to 20 people.

If rooms in the Prince of Wales are fully booked you may make your own arrangements for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast but travel by bus with the group – cost £50
