Down, who moved his practice to a burgeoning Belfast in 1860, was one of Ulster\u2019s very best Victorian designers. His body of work, the product of an intense but tragically short life, is worthy of capture and is celebrated anew in this comprehensive, beautifully illustrated monograph by Dr Paul Harron \u2013 a further title by the author in the UAH\u2019s \u2018Architects of Ulster\u2019 series.<\/p>\n<p>Distinctive, original, eclectic, sometimes quirky and often dramatic, William Barre\u2019s building designs form some of the richest components of Ulster\u2019s built environment from the High Victorian period.
