On 28th August 2018, the people of Belfast and beyond looked on in shock when Bank Buildings, the landmark home of Primark in Belfast city centre, burnt almost to the ground after a construction accident. Designed by W. H. Lynn and opened in 1900, the building became an emblem of Belfast’s economic growth and was a central feature of Belfast’s commercial heart. The fire sparked an outpouring of support, and strong campaigns led by UAH among others ultimately concluded in Primark undertaking the challenging task of restoring the building. Hall Black Douglas were the architects appointed to the project, tasked with its extraordinary reconstruction.

Join UAH on Thursday 10th November at 7.00pm as Stephen Douglas, director of Hall Black Douglas, delves into describing the painstaking process of fully restoring the iconic building after such terrible damage. This illustrated talk will document the journey of this building, from ashes to a return to glory.
