Architectural Schizophrenia is a copy of a joint lecture by the then President of the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society, Charles Brett, and the Chairman of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive; given in Queen’s University as part of the Belfast Festival at Queen’s in November 1989.
The lecture discusses the relationship between conservation and social housing, and whether it is possible to combine the “considerations which motivate a conservationist” and “those other more workaday considerations which must motivate the provider and administrator of publicly-provided housing- practicality, efficiency and above all, economy”.
Illustrations include photographs of completed new housing in direct comparison with old housing stock in Northern Ireland.
