Architects of Ulster: WJ Barre

New UAH publication to be released 2021

Posted on: 25th March 2021

The next UAH publication will be the second in our series on Ulster Architects. The author will be Dr Paul Harron and the subject will be William Barre whose many buildings include the Ulster Hall and the Crozier monument in Banbridge. The book, which will be edited by the Chair of the UAH Publications Committee, Karen Latimer, will be well illustrated, high quality and a handsome addition to the series.

We are dedicating the book to Gordon Wheeler who edited early volumes in the UAH county series by Sir Charles Brett – Buildings of County Antrim (1996), Buildings of County Armagh (1999) and Buildings of North County Down (2002). Gordon served on the UAH Publications Committee for many years guiding several different authors and always demonstrating his quiet but firm authority.

We estimate the cost of the publication will be approximately £9,000 and if you would like to subscribe and receive a copy of the book please send a cheque or donate through the UAH website here. When you get to the link there are three alternatives for donation. The third one is headed ‘Forthcoming UAH Publication: Architects of Ulster: WJ Barre…’ which you should tick. If you are able to gift aid your donation that will provide us with an additional 25% benefit for the book, at no cost to you.

There will be a list of subscribers in the book and all donations will be acknowledged and much appreciated.
