The Upper Bridge, Bushmills.

Join UAH chair Daniel Calley for a walking tour of the historic town of Bushmills where we will explore some of its many fine buildings.  Bushmills developed along the banks of the River Bush whose salmon-rich waters powered its several mills and whiskey industry.  Much of the present appearance of the village is due to the Macnaghten family, of the neighbouring Dundarave estate, whose benign interest in its development continued throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.  This will be a good opportunity to compare the present condition of Bushmills to WD Girvan’s early 1970s list that he wrote for the UAHS.

The day will begin with morning coffee at Bistro at the Courthouse followed by a stroll around the village.  Amongst the buildings viewed will be the courthouse, mills, bridges, churches, schools, village square and cottages.  After the tour, we will return to the Bistro for lunch.

Parking: There are public carparks behind the Old Courthouse and across Main Street from the Bushmills Inn.

NB: Due to uneven surfaces please wear sensible walking shoes and bring a raincoat in case of wet weather.
